The Road to Becoming a Work at Home Mom

I have recently begun my journey to becoming a "work-at-home" mom. I have absolutely NO IDEA what I am doing...but my goals are lofty and my motivation is high. I am way behind the times and know very little about making money on the internet. My goal is to create enough income "working" on the internet from home, that I can create my own schedule and do not have to work outside of the home. I am not looking to get rich quick. Truth be told, I am not even looking to get rich...yet! I just need enough income to support my LARGE family.

I have been casually looking for a while now, for something that I could do on the internet to create income. The problem is that most of the stuff that is out there is a bunch of scams...websites "selling" get rich quick schemes that don't work. I was having a hard time finding anything that was a legit way to make money.

Recently, I was searching on the internet for how-to information on a particular topic and ended up on Ehow.com. As I was looking for information on my topic, I learned that Ehow has a "writer's compensation" program. You can sign up for free and write how-to articles about absolutely anything you want. Then Ehow will post your article and populate it with related google adsense ads. If people read your article and click on one of the ads, you earn revenue! This concept really interested me. I never knew anything like this existed...as I mentioned, I'm a little behind the times!

I signed up, which took less than five minutes and started to click around and get familiar with the site. It didn't take long at all. I then decided to write and submit my first article. Ehow makes it super simple to publish and article...and a little over an hour after discovering the site, I had published my own article!

So, after publishing my first article I started wondering if this site was actually legit, and whether or not people were actually making money on it. I began searching within Ehow for articles related to "making money on ehow". Lo and behold there were lots of them. Several users wrote articles on the subject and some were claiming ehow earnings exceeding $1000/month. I was amazed and excited by the concept. The more I read, the more I believe that the site was legit. No one was trying to sell me anything...just a whole bunch of people sharing information, and getting paid to do it!

I have always been a believer that anything someone else can do, I can do too! I love to write, I love to learn, and I know how to do all kinds of things! And so I decided I would write some articles and see what happens. $1000/month would certainly make a difference in my life...even $100 would make a difference, so I figured it was worth a try! I haven't made $100 yet, but... I wrote my first article on January 28th, 2009. Since then I have published a total of 32 articles and earned a total of $18.27. Most wouldn't think much of this, I mean what in the world can you do with $18?!? I certainly can't feed my family of 10 with that, as a matter of fact I'd be hardpressed to feed our family one dinner with that!!

BUT...I am excited with the prospect! I am not discouraged at all! (I have read that many initially are) I am completely encouraged. Making money writing online IS possible. I only have 32 articles, about half of them haven't made a cent yet. But one article, that I published at the beginning of April has already made over five dollars, and the month isn't even over yet! Hmmm, even at $5/month...times 12 months - that would be $60.00 or more per year for just one article. Not bad at all considering the article took less than an hour to write.

So, I am excited about the prospect and excited about continuing to write and see what happens. One of the biggest things I have learned so far is that there is SO VERY MUCH more to learn. I signed up for this blog and barely know what a blog is...but I'm learning lots very quickly. I don't yet know how to make my page look all fancy like everyone else's. But what I have found is that there are more resources on the internet than anyone could ever use. Just about anything you want to know you can find out if you search. So I plan on learning something new everyday. I figure if I am starting at this point, there have to be others in the same boat. So if I record my progress and everything that I learn, and I succeed at developing an income from home, hopefully some day ths can be a resource for anyone else trying to accomplish the same thing!
